Ruebenau, a widely distributed village of approximately 1,100 inhabitants at the outermost border of Saxonia lies framed from the Erzgebirge-comb at a value of 610 to 780 m over the sea level. The place is between two large landscape-coining valleys.

To the valley of the “Schwarze Pockau”, also “Schwarzwassertal” mentioned, with the famous Katzenstein in the west and the “Natzschung” with the “Stoesserfelsen” in the east. Ruebenau forms after for its shape a square, which on three sides, in the east, the south and the west, by which Czech Republic one limits. The place is completely enclosed of forest. On German side of the powerful spruce existence of the "war forest" and on bohemia side of the "Rothenhauser woodlands".

The place, which formed no uniform village in earlier years still, consists of several connected local parts and farmsteads. This lends the singular character of a scattered housing estate to it; the largest in Saxonia.

In the village center is the economical and cultural center. Many small business offers all what one needs to the life. Thus there is among other things savings market with post office branch, one butcher’s shop, 2 baker's shop branches, a flower shop, a Quelle-Agency, a building market, several combing salons and a purchase market. In
the municipal office a savings bank, the office is accommodated by forester Braeuer and the dentist Schuffenhauer.

Also at guest rooms and pubs it is not missing in Ruebenau. The oldest hotel in the place is the "Landgasthof Weisser Hirsch". It is directly because of the village square and by the family Schmidt is managed. The cosy guest room, an association area and in addition a large dance hall load to a-turn in. The guestrooms in the upper floors is prepared new and offers in whole 25 vacation guests accommodation.

Only 100 meters far away from the "Weisser Hirsch" the Café and confectionery Fritzsch are with the so-called water houses. It loads daily to the coffee drinking and cake meal in. In a secondary room one can in addition, a small lunch to itself take or beers drink. Holidays guests are accommodated in the upper floor.

Behind the Café on the hill is the Bergschaenke. It is in the possession of Irene Doering. Together with their man and its daughter it manages the good-going and far well-known restaurant barkeeper shank. The guestrooms in the upper floors is prepared modern and offers a fantastic view of the local center of Ruebenau, with the salient church, the old school and the old manor.
